Frequently asked questions

Where are the subtitles?

For all films for which subtitles are provided (as specified on the respective product page), those are embedded within the digital download file itself. They must be enabled in your video player application to be displayed in the desired language.

For best subtitle compatibility, we recommend using VLC (which can be downloaded for free at www.videolan.org). To enable subtitles in VLC, simply open the video file then select “Subtitle” -> “Sub track” in the top menu bar and choose the desired language. The “Subtitle” menu can also be accessed by right-clicking on the image while the video is playing.

My digital download won't play, what should I do?

Our digital download video files are standard MPEG (H.264) files and can be played with regular video playing software such as VLC, Quicktime, or Windows Media Player. For best subtitle compatibility we recommend using VLC.

If you can’t open the file you have downloaded, it’s almost certainly because the download was interrupted before completion. Try downloading the file again.

I bought one of your films in digital version and can no longer play it on my iPhone/iPad/mobile device.

We offer our films in digital download version, not as streaming video (except for the Permaculture Skills series through a dedicated website at www.permaskills.net). You’re meant to download and save them on your hard drive so you can watch the film again in the future – usually this can’t be done on an iPad or iPhone unless you have an app meant for that purpose.

Our download links will remain valid for two weeks and allow for 10 download attempts (most people only need one). Please download and save a copy of the film within that two-week period.

If you watched the film directly on your device (streaming) without saving a copy and need a new download link, contact us through the form below. If you promise to save a copy of the file next time we’ll probably send you one.

Will your DVDs work in my country?

All our DVDs are region-free and work everywhere.

The digital download is taking forever!

Our digital download video files are high-quality and thus also quite large, but if the download is unusually slow the problem could be coming from your connection or computer. Our files are hosted on Amazon S3 servers which offer some of the industry’s best speed and reliability.

Try downloading the file from another computer or internet connection. The performance offered by some ISPs also varies greatly depending on the time of day.

We offer most of our films in two different HD resolutions, 720p and 1080p. If you have connection issues, you may want to go with the 720p version, which is smaller and will be easier to download.

I've lost my digital download file, can I get a new download link?

Our digital downloads don’t come with a lifetime warranty covering lightning strikes, coffee spills or your dog chewing up your hard drive, but if you’ve lost your digital download file, get in touch through the form below and we’ll try to help you out.

Ideally we’ll need your original order number or the email address you used to place your order.
